Hello, it's been a while...

So. I never was very good at keeping up with this whole 'blogging on a regular basis' malarky that everyone else seems to do so well.

But I'm jumping back on the bandwagon that I so clearly fell off. *hop*

I'm currently sitting in Citizen M waiting for the Fashion Blogging 101 event to start, surrounded by gorgeous girls who look like they fell out of a modelling academy with insanely high heels on.

I'm, on the other hand, sitting in the corner of an amazing sofa in ridic, thick wooly grey tights and UGG boots. I have been rampaging around Glasgow all day at different events. I do NOT do heels at these kind of all day situations. It's impractical and to be perfectly honest, I kinda like my toes. I want them to be intact for day two of this madness tomorrow.

How amazing is that sofa. If only this was in my flat...
This event is awkward.

EEEee!

E is for excited. When I posted 'Just a quickie' it was the night before an interview. An interview for a job I really wanted.

A job I got.

I don't want to go into too much detail purely cause I don't believe it yet. And I won't until I walk though the door on my first day.

So! I'm getting a celebratory hair cut and dye. Cause right now my hair is hideous. Unsure if I should stick with being white or go back to a natural colour... conundrum!

Yeh, I'll stick to being white. Adds to my Casper the Ghost look I'm working so hard on.

To add to my panic about starting a new job, I need to find a new flat. THERE ARE NONE!

Edinburgh Festival kills everything regarding finding flats. People cash in and get £1000 a week for their flats. Curse their entrepreneurial skills! *insert angry fist shaking motion here*

To celebrate some more, I feel there should be some more shoe purchasing. Those damn blue, sparkly shoes I wanted are now in pewter.

Schuh - £65

I honestly think Schuh know that I have a thing for all things sparkly. Cause they keep sending in more damn shoes covered in glitter. For example:

Schuh - £65

Schuh - £80

Schuh - £55

You guys are killing me. Like really killing me.

To add to my lack of flat and decreasing bank balance due to pretty shoes, my phone is dying. I currently possess a iPhone 3 (retro innit?!) which for the past 6 months has become slower and slower. Facebook crashes, Tweetdeck doesn't load properly, it resets it's self randomly and it chooses which messages it wants to send and receive.

This. Is. Not. Cool!

I'm in Glasgow tomorrow. I could easily pop into Apple and pick up an iPhone 4 but I know after I've gotten home, played with it for a week that I will then get an email saying:

THE iPHONE 5 IS HERE. THIS IS THE BEST PHONE EVAAAR!

And I'll cry and cry and cry...

Dear Apple.

Please release one now.

Much <3

Jen

P.S What is for you, will not go by you. Remember that bitches.

Pregnant

With food baby.

Gotcha. I had the most self indulgent weekend with my friend. It involved a bugger load of food:

  • Dominos: Large ham, pineapple, sweetcorn & mushroom pizza. Also got the stuffed crust - it's horrible. AVOID
  • Frankie & Benny's: 2 pints (yes, pints) of coke, 5 chicken wings coated in BBQ sauce & a BBQ steak wrap with fries.
  • Back at the flat: Fizzy cola laces, Wispa bars, 2 tubes of Pringles, 2ltr bottle of Irn Bru & cookie Galaxy.
  • Later on: Left over Dominos.
  • This morning: More Irn Bru & a bacon roll.
  • Dinner: Chip butty.

URGH. I swear I need a ridiculous amount of detox to get rid of all the crap I scoffed over the last few days. I should also be the size of a small house or at least a Great Dane?

On my adventurous weekend, I also ended up at T in the Park. Not that I was actually at the festival but rather picking up my friends sister who had had enough. It was a different experience. Full of parents frantically trying to get their children's attention whilst flapping around their sheets in the car to stop their spawn coating everything in mud.

Also played an awesome game of guess which car their heading to by the brand of their wellies.

Most people have probably heard about Google+. I finally got an invite and I'm unsure what to make of it. It's like a cheap version of Facebook. Obviously they have a lot of work still to do and Facebook has been in development for many years but it's just a bit... bland at the moment.

Also is someone wants to take me to see Harry Potter next week, that would be highly acceptable.

I have grown up with this series. I have to go see it. Expelliarmus!

Miss Magpie

I like things that shine and/or sparkle. Just ask my last boss. Whenever Christmas came around, I would get insanely excited about the things that would sparkle. Especially all that stuff that involved glitter. I don't care if I get covered in it or it ends up lodged under my fingernails; it make me stupidly happy.

There did actually used to be a shop in my home town called Magpies. I spent a ridiculous amount of time in it. However, thats a different story for probably never another day.

Yes. There is a point to this. The point is that these arrived in work today:

Schuh - £65

I have been waiting for ages for these to finally appear in stores. I <3 electric blue, glitter and stupidly high shoes. I MUST HAVE THESE.

But.

I'm going to be a cheapskate and wait till my Schuhiversary (see what I did there - genius!) where my discounts will magically appear on my card.

I imagine that these will look a bit like this on me:

My artistic skills are amazing I hear you cry. Yes, they are =)

I do think I possibly need to stop buying shoes for a while (after those bad boys of course). I added another two pairs to my collection the other day. A pair I had previously spoken about buying but went against.

I bought them purely for my work's night out. Which I ended up doing this:

I am a classy girl. But it could be a new idea for a hat.

You guys watch out in Vogue next year. A glass, circular hat will be there*

*Possibly and most likely not.

Just a quickie...

It's 12:12am and I can't get to sleep. Those who know me, will know why.

I also refuse to put it on here cause, knowing me, I'll jinx myself.

This more of a Tweet size update than a normal blog post but I haven't been available the past few days to pop a proper entry in.

Normal service will resume after tomorrow. Fingers crossed and enjoy some merry nibbles.

Liar, liar, pants on fire

So, in my last few updates I have stated I hate sales. I probably should have made some sort of disclaimer cause there's a certain sale I do particularly love. Sure, I may be slightly biased but Schuh's sale is pretty damn awesome this year.

And, and! I actually got some good bargains plus I had a pretty awesome day today in general.

I spent wayyyy too much today...

Schuh £49.99

I have have a major thing for the 1940s and oriental prints. This is those things rolled into a shoe! Ooww. What more can a girl want...? I have had my eye on these shoes forever.  These are super cute and as with all Irregular Choice shoes, they are majorly comfy. No idea how they do it but I never get sore feet with them; no matter how much I prance around in them. I need to find that simple black dress to go with these!

Schuh - £34.99

Again, these are another pair I have had my eye on since they first hit the shelves. It's like an explosion of colour on the back of a shoe. I have already been jumping around the living room with these cuties.

Buy a pair of semi sensible and half plain shoes:

Schuh - £24.99
I <3 bags. I have a whole cupboard full of them. But theres always space for more. I have had my old black Eastpak bag since I was in high school (that was 6 or 7 years ago!) and over the years it has taken some battering. Whilst that bag is still going strong (honestly, if you want a good, long lasting backpack, get an Eastpak!) I needed a wee change of colour. So I went for the one covered in stars!

My last purchase was something I have been thinking about for ageees. I have a stupid amount of vintage dresses. I have NO decent shoes to go with them. It's a nightmare and I'm unsure how I managed to go without some cute ankle boots. This is my favourite dress at the moment:

Sooooo. I got these:

Schuh - £44.99
Well, I haven't got them physically yet; but they are on their way to my feetsies. Red or Dead is a brand I seriously love. Super soft leather and awesome designs every time. Plus, Victorian styling! Perfect. Now I just have to wait the two days for delivery...

Stupid lack of patience.

Whilst I wait, I will nom on some cupcakes.

Cupcakes should be a girls best friend. Bibi's bakery is by far the best cupcake boutique in central Edinburgh. At £1.50 a cake, it's a treat only. Other wise I'm sure I would be broke straight after payday.

Today was a good day. I shuffled my way along Princes Street with two Schuh bags, my new backpack filled with M&S food and my satchel full of cupcakes.

To top it off, I found 40p on the bus seat. Yay!

Dear legs, You need to go to the gym

Like many others, I sat and watched Beyonce at Glastonbury whilst talking jibberish on Twitter to other like minded individuals.

My God. Jay Z is a very lucky man. I have some serious leg (and shoe! Those things are covered with some serious sparkles) envy right now and its safe to say she's one of my girl crushes:

Beyonce - 98%
Katy Perry - 2%

glastonbury-2011-beyonce-pyramid-stage
My, my!

It's hard to choose between them. But! They both have equally amazing legs. It's safe to safe I'm not the leggiest person but I do think it's time to put down the Fox's Chunky Cookies and get some running shoes.

Maybe later?

It's also my works 30th birthday night out on Saturday and it's safe to say I'm super excited. EEEEeeee is for excited!
After the excitement passes, I then realise I have no idea what to wear. All the shops are currently rammed with sale stuff and people who are desperate to save that fiver off that dress that they really didn't like in the first place.

I said it before and I will say it again. I HATE sales.

However, I fought my way into Zara today, managed wriggle my way to the new collection stuff and found this:

Blazer £39.99 Zara

I have a major thing for blazers. They go with anything. Night or day. So now I just need something to wear with said blazer. I also discovered today that it is impossible to find a LBD. A nice plain one is stupidly hard to find anywhere cause they are all currently covered in tassels, flowers and anything else they choose to whack on it.

Being a girl is hard.

Friday 24 June 2011

The sun is full of ninja tendencies.

My mum is from New Zealand. I inherited the love of the sun from her. So technically this post is all her fault.

Scotland isn't a place known for its sunny days. It's sneaky and hides either behind rain clouds or just clouds in general. The sun also does not like to be seen by me. I step outside and it hides.

But today, no! This shall not happen.

It.
Is.
Sunny.

Wooooo! Sorry but the weather is exciting here. I shall be cracking out the pretty dresses and awesome shoes soon. Yas!

It is, in all fairness, about as exciting as what The Sun classifies as 'breaking news'.

WOMAN FINDS SUPER SIZED TWIGLET.
Told you it was exciting.

Jumping back to the weather, I'm kind of glad its turning out to be nice. I live in a small town. All small towns have Gala days. This week just happens to be Beltane week where it is deemed acceptable to crown a 12 year old girl Queen of the town.

I can't help but hate this festival. Don't get me wrong. I used to love it when I was a kid who was part of the parade or a teenager who loved to cause riots. There is nothing quite like throwing sweets at
un-expecting children the back of a lorry dressed up as something from the latest Disney film. But now, I'm apparently a grown up.

I need to get into town for work but I can't cause they keep moving the bus stops to accommodate for the horses.
I want to walk home at night but I get jumped on by drunk revelers.
I want to sleep so I wake up at 6am (semi) refreshed for work but I can't cause ever bugger under the sun is out having parties; most of which end up in my street.

I may sound stupidly 'bah humbug' but I cannot stand living in a small town.

GET ME BACK TO EDINBURGH. Please?

Also, that ASOS dress that I posted about a while ago that I was told would be going into the sale is STILL full price.

Liars.

Confessions of an eBay addict.

Hello my name is Jen and I am addicted to eBay. It has been 1 hour 13 minutes since I last trawled the listings.

It's kinda bad. I'm not going to lie. I see things, I decide I need said things and then I buy them. Urgh. But it's not all bad. I do sell my junk as well. Occasionally. When I can be bothered. When I have the patience to sit for hours upon end writing about how exciting this roll of fabric really is. I could quite honestly sell wool to a sheep. I'm just that damn good*.

Right now I am surrounded by stuff I really need to get rid of. I'm moving back to Edinburgh next month and I need to make pennies. FAST (yes, yes I am aware there are 'other' methods to make money fast but those are illegal and I would probably be that person who gets murdered).

Today my plan should be to list stuff. For example I have:

  • A Wii
  • Wii Fit board
  • Wii Fit mat
  • Xbox 360 with a 120gb HD
  • Numerous dresses
  • A massive Sony desktop PC
  • Alexander McQueen scarf
  • Leather satchels
  • A crap load of books from uni (which I'm waiting till September to sell cause thats when those pesky students go back to studying)
So, yeh. I have lots to sell which would probably make me some money and make my life just a touch easier. Yet, I'm faffing about watching Diagnosis Murder.

This man is a legend. If you disagree, then you are wrong =)

eBay does have its advantages. I find amazing bargains like leather satchels (I buy too many. That is why it's listed as my stuff to sell. They look pretty and I buy. I can't wear more than one at a time although I've tried and I look really stupid) for awesome prices:

£20 on eBay - Fantastic! (Not my photo. Mines are faaaaar better)

I do have a thing for satchels. I have had one since I was at college that still gets used everyday. I got told I'd never use it. Well take that people! It's the best bag in the world and well worth paying the extra money.

Battered and worn but by far the best bag I have ever had.

For anyone looking for a satchel, Scaramanga is where you should go. Super friendly guys with an amazing range of products. I've been complimented left, right and center about it as well as pointing people in the direction of their website. I was also fortunate to win a competition with them and I am now the proud owner of a flight bag:

I do have another one and I'm quite sure their will be more added to my collection in the near future. For you people who do not own a leather satchel, you're missing out.

*Sometimes being confident is my downfall...

Burning my pocket

I have never been a massive fan of sales. They're messy, stuffy and full of people with sharp elbows.

Mines are as blunt as a marshmallow. I am no good at demanding that I did actually find that item first or snatching something as soon as it gets put back on the rail.

Plus, I NEVER find anything decent in them. Maybe not never; but its a rare occurrence.

I had time to kill this morning before work and I took the dangerous decision to wander into Kurt Geiger. This is a place I normally love for their minimalistic, bright and funky displays. Not today. It was like they grabbed every shoe and whacked it down on the shelves.

I rummaged.

Those black shoes I was needing (which I still haven't got. And probably dont need. Boooooo!) appeared in amongst the chaos.

Womens Shoes from KG - Dorothy Black Courts Classic
Soooo pretty

Whilst they are not anything like I normally buy (I <3 Irregular Choice), they could be my new 'I will go with everything shoe'. Down from £100 to £59, there is most definitely a hole burning in my pocket.

To extinguish or let the hole burn right through. Urgh...

On a different note, Larry the cat that lives with the Prime Minster  has caught three mice since moving into Number 10.

Larry the cat
Nice to see the important stuff is on the BBC News website
Larry the cat also does not like men. Unless, of course, you are the most powerful man in America.
"He said Larry was "not very keen on men", but seemed happy to be stroked by US President Barack Obama when he visited London in May."

Interesting. Isn't it...

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

This is a door & Royal Ascot - I < 3 you!

There is a few things I love.

  1. Lego
  2. Hats
  3. My boyfriend (gush, gush, swoon etc)
  4. And this door:

This is the magic door. It leads to no where and one day I'd love to do a wee photo shoot in front of it. This is the one good thing about living in a countryside. Beautiful scenery and random bits of quirkiness.

Whilst I sit here sprawled over my bed and typing this, I have one eye closely monitoring the telly.

Royal Ascot.

More specifically Royal Ascot Ladies Day. Anyone who knows me will know I have a small obsession with hats. I made them solidly for two years at uni and even did my entire dissertation on it. If anyone wants to read it (Beware! It is MASSIVE!) I popped it in a link on the sidebar.

This is the latest one I made:
Excuse the fingernails! And for the nitpickers amongst you - yes, yes. It is indeed a fascinator. Not a hat. Dur dur.

This wee riot was created through the sacrifice of an old hat which had become battered from living in the attic. Plus, my future flatmate asked me to make her something for a wedding. How could I possibly say no!

The demented look is just an added bonus...

My inbox is slowly filling up with beautiful creations being worn right now. It's actually starting to frustrate me because I don't have the stuff to work out how they did half of it!

Umbrellas away: The weather brightens up

These guys are by far my favorite. Completely quirky, full of colour and most importantly, they use feathers. There is not enough feathers used in the world!

And if you own a horse and feel that their heads are being left out, never fear! The legend that is Stephen Jones has solved this issue.

Timeless: The horse's headpiece draws its inspiration from the Ladies' Day headpiece Audrey Hepburn wore in My Fair Lady

I also think ASOS know I just got paid. They are now rampaging me with sale previews.

If anyone wants to buy me it, click here. It would be superly awesome of you...

Wednesday 15 June 2011

It's here! Trends for 2012. Yas!

It's is true. I've been away from blogging for some time. I chose to shut down my old blog to concentrate on passing my degree.

Which I have now done and it looks fantastic on my odd shaped wall. Ahem. I digress.

I graduated with a fashion degree and nothing appeals to me more than:

1) When my Vogue magazine thumps on the door mat,
2) I get paid and can buy all the things I cannot afford,
3) When the emails come through telling me of next seasons trends.

It's like being back at university all over again. And I can't help but get excited when I see that this time its got a watery feel to it. Without the sogginess that usually comes attached to it.

Ruffles always get me. Every time and without fail. If you want to hide a certain area of your body; use a ruffle. If you want your boobs to look bigger; whack on a ruffle! I bet if you go to your wardrobe there will be at least one thing with a ruffle on it. And if there isn't, go out and buy something with one!

I also like colour.

Currently, my obsession is green. If this obsession lasts till next season then I'm sure I'll fit in nicely. Like Arial from the Little Mermaid. Except with legs.

It's also pay day tomorrow. Shamefully, I discovered I have no black high heels. At all.

I have no idea how this is even possible. I have a stupid amount of shoes and most of them live in nice wee plastic boxes in the attic.

Simple, yet exactly what I need. I shall have you tomorrow.

=)
